The Aerospace and Defense (A&D) vertical market business team responsible for all programmable devices deployed in A&D applications and the development of Xilinx’s leadership strategy and business results for this market is seeking an A&D Systems Architect. The A&D vertical market business team is responsible for A&D market product planning, solutions (including IP, software and development boards), ecosystem partners and market strategies. This organization is also responsible for managing long-term strategic A&D government relationships and continued profitable growth within the A&D business.
The A&D market spans a diverse set of algorithms and application workloads across domains such as Radar, Avionics and MILCOM; and Xilinx A&D customers today leverage a broad product portfolio featuring FPGAs, MPSoCs and RFSoCs to meet aggressive performance requirements in this space. As system capabilities continue to scale and new threats rapidly emerge, the demand for adaptive, real-time, high-throughput and SWaP-optimized computing solutions continues to increase. With the advent of Versal ACAP devices, Xilinx will extend its industry-leading portfolio by offering A&D customers a fully software-programmable, heterogeneous compute platform that combines Scalar Engines, Adaptable Engines and AI Engines--with optimizations for real-time, vector-based Digital Signal Processing and Machine Learning inference--to enable breakthroughs in low-SWaP sensor processing and achieve dramatic performance improvements over prior generations.
The role is focused on Xilinx Aerospace and Defense system architecture activities which include defining system architectures for the applications on Xilinx current and future FPGA SoCs and ACAP devices. This role entails identifying industry technical trends, defining use cases for future Xilinx products, architecting whole system product solutions including FPGA devices, boards, IP, reference designs, drivers, and software, and assisting in business development and selling activities to win business. Responsibilities associated with architecting these solutions will include working with our elite sales team to identify and prioritize customer engagements, presenting advanced roadmaps to the Xilinx customers and their customers and industry influencers, and helping provide architecture technical support needed by these customers. The individual will also be responsible for developing presentations, marketing messaging and collateral along with other enabling tools to drive business in this segment. The individual will also be responsible for understanding broader A&D applications requirements in radar, MILCOM and other A&D segments to create benchmarking designs to demonstrate the feature set advantages of Xilinx FPGA SoCs. The ideal candidate will have experience with Xilinx FPGA SoCs using DSPs and Verilog or VHDL, HLS, OpenCL or CUDA, MATLAB, C/C++ and Python along with SIMD vector processing and signal processing algorithm development.
This role is focused on Xilinx A&D system architecture activities leveraging current and future Xilinx product platforms spanning FPGAs, SoCs and ACAPs; and spans the full range of segments addressed by the A&D market team, including: Radar, Avionics, Military Communications, Space, Electronic Warfare and Missiles and Munitions. The role includes working across several corporate organizational boundaries, including sales, field and technical applications, product planning, product marketing and software engineering. The role is crucial for the Xilinx A&D business in ensuring our next generation products are quickly and effectively adopted by our A&D customers and that A&D product roadmap supports the continued technical advancement of our products to support winning business.
The role also includes modeling and defining the computational requirements (in terms of MACs, OPS, FLOPS, and other figures of merit) for key edge computing algorithms and applications in the A&D market, many of which are compute-intensive and DSP-oriented (for instance, adaptive filtering, digital beamforming, communications signal processing, image processing, machine learning, etc.), and mapping these to available compute resources on Xilinx platforms (which includes programmable logic, DSP macros, CPUs and AI Engine arrays). Additionally, the System Architect will work closely with other A&D system architects and subject matter experts to help define complete solutions that comply with the overall system-level and environmental requirements in a particular segment, including power, security and reliability constraints.
BSEE or equivalent degree
Prefer 5 years+ experience
Knowledge of A&D electronics market, trends, architectures and applications
Familiarity with FPGA technology
Ability to create designs in Xilinx FPGA SoCs are benchmark feature capabilities
Strong command of matrix and vector-based processing techniques
Familiarity with parallel computing techniques on Digital Signal Processors (DSPs) and Graphical Processing Units (GPUs) is desirable
Experience with embedded software development on ARM and MicroBlaze processors
Familiarity with embedded operating systems (such as Linux), board support packages and hypervisors is desirable
Familiarity / experience with machine learning is highly desirable
Sales opportunity tracking and management
Strong communications skills (verbal, written and presentation) for creation of customer presentations, product requirements documents, conference white papers and sales and marketing collateral
