Customer Training and Knowledge Transfer
  • Provides on-site or on-demand problem-solving support for customer engineering to facilitate partnering (e.g., advises on block diagram, alerts to overlooked Xilinx features or functions, helps customer engineering maintain a big picture view of design)
Design Shaping and Optimization
  • Assesses how the customer is using Xilinx technology and feeds this information back into Xilinx for consideration by marketing or product development
  • Ensures that customer utilization of Xilinx technology works as intended (e.g., facilitates testing, acts as interface to Xilinx, helps debug problems)
  • Leverages understanding of known challenges to advise customer designers on the optimum use of Xilinx IP, tools and devices
  • Provides the mentoring and knowledge transfer to junior FAEs essential for effectively exploiting the power of Xilinx's programmable system on a chip in customer design discussions
Technical Acumen
  • Leverages deep understanding of Xilinx IP, tool and device capabilities to recognize and advance 'sticky' solution opportunities
  • Collaborates effectively with others in improvising or configuring standard technical Xilinx solutions to address unique customer challenges
Technical Competitive Positioning
  • Actively monitors customer engineering to identify and counter competitive messages, and ensure these messages are addressed in formal sales positioning activities
Technical Opportunity Prospecting
  • Mentors less experienced FAEs on how to shape unreasonable customer support requests into new opportunities
  • Leverages customer training to influence customer's technology preferences in favor of Xilinx solutions
  • Works consultatively within customer engineering to establish Xilinx as early as possible within potential opportunities
Technical Opportunity Qualification
  • Identifies challenging opportunities and advises account managers on the probability of success and advisability of pursuit
  • Leverages relationships within customer engineering to profile decision-makers , decision-making criteria, and other qualification variables (e.g., Xilinx champions, receptiveness to competitors, allotted funding, engineering competency)
  • Understands the challenges of complex or esoteric customer platforms, and involves the right architectural and technical resources where deep analysis is warranted
Technical Sales Coordination
  • Conducts convincing proof-of-concept (POC) demonstrations that incorporate customer IP, exhibit design examples, or establish benchmarks
  • Works with System Architects to ensure accurate team communication of the strategic design overview guiding technical decisions
  • Facilitates accurate, up-to-date competitive analysis and positioning among less experienced FAEs

Interact with Xilinx communications customers to understand their requirements for new upcoming projects

                              Skills required:

        1. Understanding of Xilinx product portfolio of Hardware and Software Tools
        2. Understanding of Xilinx Design flow for hardware and software.
        3. Understanding of protocols used in communications networks: Ethernet 1G to 400G, OTN, CPRI, etc..
        4. Understanding of connectivity protocols: PCIE, Interlaken, etc…
        5. Understanding of storage protocols: SATA, FC, etc…
        6. Understanding of telecom networks  for Transport, Access, and Radio
        7. Understanding of hardware aspects of PCB design
        8. Understanding of Hardware components electrical protocols for memory interfaces (DDR4, DDR3, LPDDR, HMC, etc…)
        9. Understanding of mechanical and thermal aspects of the board design
        10. Understanding of competitive products data and Xilinx product positioning with strength and weakness analysis



               Work on building Proof of Concept (PoC’s) for new customer demos on Xilinx development boards or custom boards or customers

                              Skills required:

        1. Xilinx Vivado (Full design flow including front end design entry to Implementation and timing closure)
        2. Xilinx Vivado HLS (Full design flow including front end design entry to Implementation and timing closure)
        3. Understanding of FPGA level and system level architecture for communications systems under guidance of Xilinx architects
        4. Embedded design and C based skills are needed as Xilinx devices are SoC’s
        5. Basic Linux related skills are desirable


               Doing postsales support on customer custom designed boards

                              Skills required:

        1. Debug of custom designs built by customer in RTL. Netlist, simulation, etc.. at customer site and labs
        2. Assisting in timing closure of design
        3. Assisting in implementation issues faced on Xilinx tools by the customer
        4. Assisting in schematic review of custom board designs by customer
        5. Performance enhancement of customer designs based on Xilinx devices and software
        6. Debug of issues in embedded designs


This job role requires frequent travel to customer sites both Bangalore and other cities across India or any location Xilinx management has directed us to visit for customer support


This is not an exhaustive list and only a brief extract of the roles and responsibilities of the FAE in WWG, there will be additional responsibilities which will be decided by Xilinx management and communicated to the FAE at appropriate time for discharging his duties towards requirements of the job.
