The Linux Systems Administrator will be responsible for providing technical support to the Engineering organizations at Xilinx. This position will be required to support and improve Linux and Windows compute in a dynamic, fast-paced engineering & lab environment.

 

This person will also be responsible for collaborating globally on efforts for various IT activities related to the Xilinx Engineering environment, in accordance with Xilinx World Wide IT strategies and objectives.


Responsibilities

  • Partner with engineering to deliver strategic initiatives, projects, and recommend technologies and automation efforts
  • Responsible for participating in global technical team meetings and contributing to a number of global enterprise projects for the hardware and software labs
  • Build and deploy new systems to Xilinx defined standards
  • Provide Linux (RHEL, CentOS, Ubuntu, SUSE) & Windows (Win7, Win10) troubleshooting and technical support to the Engineering organization.
  • Assist in the day-to-day maintenance of the Engineering infrastructure, including Linux & Windows system builds, configuration & security management, patching, automation and system upgrades, and troubleshooting technical issues.
  • Assist with Tier 2 ServiceNow ticket escalations
  • Create & Document new procedures to a level by which processes & instructions are understood and reproducible by others
  • Racking and stacking of various servers
  • Support data center infrastructure moves/adds/changes
  • Ability to be resourceful in researching solutions on the internet, forums, vendor support for finding drivers, technical information and solutions for engineering systems
  • Vendor management for technical solutions and problem resolutions

 

Troubleshooting

  • Applies knowledge of Xilinx IT infrastructure (including hardware, operating systems, core services applications) to resolve routine IT issues
  • Independent problem-solving and troubleshooting in complex Linux & Windows environments
  • Utilizes appropriate technical resources and support groups to help solve problems effectively and efficiently
  • Builds/maintains and updates documents related to troubleshooting procedures for IT solutions for future reference
  • Collaborates with vendors and/or systems engineers to actively troubleshoot and resolve common or standard issues (e.g., those related to hardware, operating system)

Qualifications:

  • 4+ years of experience in the support of Linux (RHEL, CentOS, Ubuntu, SUSE), Kickstart and PXE environments. Can support, maintain, improve and troubleshoot the related technologies.
  • 4+ years of experience in the support of Windows 7 and 10 environments.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; capable of training users, partnering and working with other system administrators in complex topics and interacting positively with management at all levels.
  • Independent problem-solving and troubleshooting in an engineering focused complex global Linux & Windows environment and associated IT Infrastructure.
  • Strong understanding and knowledge of PC hardware components
  • Proficient in a majority of Linux & Windows operating system administration aspects including system installation, configuration management, high performance computing, security, package repositories, patching and installation of third-party software in very large environments.
  • Overall understanding of Linux & Windows based operating systems including virtual memory management, kernel memory accounting, daemons, devices, device drivers, loadable modules, filesystem concepts (inodes, RAID, LVM).
  • Skilled in one or more configuration management tools to support large environments.  Experience with LANDesk, ServiceNow & Enterprise Puppet a plus.
  • Ability to write and support basic scripts and programs, preferably using Python, Perl, Bash, C.
  • Understanding of networking/distributed computing environment concepts including NFS, DNS and LDAP.
  • Experience with virtualized environments (VMware, Xen, Citrix) a plus.
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Systems/Computer Science or equivalent experience required
  • Highly communicative with good oral and written skills
  • Customer Service Focused – responsive and thorough
  • Eagerness to learn, research, and adopt new technologies
  • Able to lift 50 lbs
